Death of a retired Police Officer : D/Sgt 478 Thomas (Tom) Marjoram

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer, D/Sgt 478 Thomas (Tom) Marjoram, who died at St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham on Sunday 17 September 2023, aged 75 years.

Tom joined Durham County Constabulary on 3 March 1969.  The majority of his Police Service was in CID, with attachments in Durham City in the early 1970’s.  He later joined the CID at Stanley and also worked with the Crime Support Unit at Police HQ and as a D/Sgt at Peterlee.  He moved to Darlington and later served with No.2 Regional Crime Squad, based at Boldon.  His last posting was at Chester-le-Street in the Criminal Justice Unit, retiring on 2 March 1999, serving with exemplary service.

Tom is survived by his wife Valerie (Val), daughter Julie, son Richard; their respective spouses, Dean and Mellissa and grandchildren Tom, Issy, Molly, Yasmin and Oscar.

A funeral service is to be held at 10.30am Friday 6 October 2023 at Durham Crematorium, South Road, Durham DH1 3TQ.

Family flowers only, donations in lieu to St Cuthbert’s Hospice.

After the funeral, friends are invited to join the family at Durham Indoor Bowling Club, Abbey Road, Pity Me, Durham DH1 5GE.

Death of Police Widow: Stella Winefride Regan

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of Police Widow, Stella Winefride Regan, who died at West Lodge Care Home, Billy Row, Crook on Thursday 31st August 2023, aged 95 years.

Stella is the widow of retired Police Sergeant 26, Stephen (Steve) Joseph Regan (Dog Section and Harperley Hall Trainer), who died 30th November 2020, aged 90 years.

Stella cared and supported the family during Steve’s 30-year Police Career, across County Durham and continued during his Dog Training business, set up after his retirement and run from 1986 to the mid 90’s.  During these times they forged many strong friendships, which lasted the rest of their lives.

Due to her failing health Stella became a resident of West Lodge Care Home in 2018, joining Steve, who had become resident there 2 years prior.

Stella is survived by sons Philip, Stephen and Stewart, daughter Clare and their respective spouses, Mary, Eleanor, Nicola and Marcus, nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, with two more due soon.

A funeral service is to be held at 11.00am Tuesday 3rd October 2023 at Our Lady Immaculate and St Cuthbert RC Church, Church Hill, Crook DL15 9DN

Family flowers only, donations in lieu to Alzheimer’s Society or Cancer Research.

After the funeral, friends are invited to join the family at Crook Golf Club, Low Jobs Hill, Crook DL15 9AA.

Retired Officer PTC Amnesty

This amnesty will allow retired officers to begin donating to The Police Treatment Centres and they will not have to wait 12 months to access our class leading treatment, subject to clinical assessment.

Our amnesty will run from 8th September to 15th September ONLY.

Our team will be present at the NARPO conference over the coming days and retired officers will be able to see us and complete a hard copy form or sign up through our online direct debit form.

Please note only those forms completed on 8th to 15th September will be eligible for the amnesty.

Death of a Retired Police Officer: PC 1587 Stephen (Steve) Shotton

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer, PC 1587 Stephen (Steve) Shotton, who died suddenly in Sunderland Royal Hospital on Sunday 27th August 2023, aged 63 years.

Steve joined Durham Constabulary in June 1998 and served most of his Police career in Neighbourhood Policing at Chester-le-Street; he retired in December 2015.

Following his retirement from the Police Service, he gained employment with Patient Transport with the North East Ambulance Service.

Steve is survived by wife Lisa and sons William, Tom and Nathaniel.

A funeral service is to be held at 12 noon Wednesday 13th September 2023, at St Paul’s Church, Ryhope Street, Ryhope, Sunderland SR2 0HH, followed by his burial at 1.00pm at Sunderland Cemetery, 28 Kitchener Terrace, Grangetown, Sunderland SR2 9RR.

Family flowers only.

After the funeral, friends are invited to join the family at The Rosedene Public House, Queen Alexandra Road, Tunstall, Sunderland SR2 9BT from 1.30pm.
