Death of a retired Police Officer: Sgt 573 Ian William Hilton

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 573 Ian William Hilton, who died at his Warwickshire home on Tuesday 26th July 2022, aged 75 years.

Ian joined Durham County Constabulary as a cadet in 1963.

He started his police career in 1966 at Hurworth and also served at Darlington, later becoming a Police Cadet Instructor.  Following his promotion to sergeant Ian, served as Custody Sergeant at Consett and with Traffic Patrols North.  He had also represented the force at Rugby and retired in 1993.

Ian was awarded a bravery medal from the RSPCA, for rescuing cows from a burning barn.  

Ian is survived by his wife Rita, daughter Sally, sons Christopher and Alexander, grandchildren Emily, Owen, Grace, Jamie and Felix and brother Alan.

A funeral service will be held at 1.00pm Monday 15th August 2022 at Wellesbourne Crematorium, Oakley Wood Road, Bishop’s Tachbrook, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire CV33 9QP.  The service is not private.

Following the funeral, family and friends are invited to meet at The Hall, Pinfold Lane, Stourton, Shipston-on-Stour CV36 5HG.
