Death of a retired Police Officer : PC 802 Ian Andrew Whale

 It is with regret that we inform you of the death of a retired Police Officer :  PC 802 Ian Andrew Whale, who died in the University Hospital North Durham on Friday 15th July 2022, aged 68 years.

Ian joined Durham Constabulary on 29th December 1976 and retired in 2006.

He started his police career at Bishop Auckland before moving to Coundon Section, later returning to Bishop Auckland as a Scientific Aids Officer.  Ian also served at Crook, where he took on the role of Tutor Constable; he later moved into Force Control Room at Aykley Heads ending his service at Stanley and Consett Communications.

Ian received 2 commendations during his career.

Ian is survived by his wife Jenn, his two brothers, three sisters and nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held at 1.30pm Monday 8th August 2022 at Durham Crematorium, South Road, Durham DH1 3TQ.  The service is not private.

Following the funeral family and friends are invited to meet at the Marriott Royal County Hotel, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JN.

No flowers please; a retiring collection at the crematorium will be available for donations, which will be given to Durham Wildlife Trust, in Ian’s memory.
