Arthur joined Durham Constabulary in 1959 and was posted to Jarrow. In 1969 as a Detective Sergeant he served on the Regional Crime Squad and was promoted to uniform Inspector in 1973 serving at Chester-le-Street.
Detective roles followed in Durham City where he was promoted Detective Chief Inspector. In 1984 Arthur was promoted to Superintendent serving as Sub-Divisional Commander at Consett and this was followed by a period as deputy head of CID until his retirement in 1989.
Throughout his service Arthur was a dedicated detective appearing on Crimewatch in 1984 as OIC investigating a series of arsons in the Wearmouth area of Sunderland. During his service he received six Chief Constable Commendations.
The funeral will be held at Durham Crematorium at 1.30pm on Monday 23rd May 2022. The service is not private.

Death of a retired Police Officer : Chief Constable George Ernest HEDGES, BEM, QPM, DL
It is with deep regret that we have to advise you of the death of a retired Police Officer : Chief Constable George Ernest HEDGES, BEM, QPM, DL who died on the 6th May 2022 in Katherine House Hospice following a short illness of some seven weeks, aged 80 years.
George Joined Oxfordshire Constabulary in 1957 as a Police Cadet. He passed through the ranks he served at Henley, Oxford, Windsor, Slough, HQ Crime and as ACC Ops and Management Services.
In 1993, he transferred from Thames Valley Police on promotion to Deputy Chief Constable at Durham Constabulary and lastly served as the Chief Constable of Durham Constabulary from 1997 until retirement in 2002.
George returned to his native Oxfordshire for retirement and joined the Oxford Branch of NARPO as a full member and Durham Branch as an additional member.
He is survived by his wife Pamela and sons Ben and Robert and daughter Joanna.

The funeral will be held at 13:00 hours on Wednesday 25th May 2022 at North Oxfordshire Crematorium and Memorial Park, Tackley, Kidlington, OXT 3ER. Officers may wear uniform if desired and medals.

Death of a retired Police Officer : D/Supt John Sutton Graham
John had been suffering the effects of Parkinsons Disease but he died in North Tees hospital as a result of a heart attack.
Born in Chopwell on the 7th September 1945 John was educated locally and on leaving school commenced an Engineering Apprenticeship with the NCB. However in 1968 he joined Durham Constabulary.
After initial training at Newby Wiske he was posted to Gateshead. He served in various divisions and departments within Durham Constabulary and rose to the rank of D/Superintendent. He retired in 1997.
He leaves a wife Janett and three children.
The funeral is to be held at 2pm on Monday 23rd May 2022 at Durham Crematorium followed by a gathering at Shotton Hall Banqueting Suite, Shotton Hall, Peterlee. All friends and colleagues are invited to attend.
Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu may be made on leaving the funeral service to British Heart Foundation and other associated charities.

Death of Durham Constabulary Support Staff : June FRANKS
June served as support staff with Durham Constabulary for 23½ years, having worked initially in Comms Durham City, then in Force Control Room (LA/PNC) until she left in December 2010.
A funeral service is to be held at 3.30pm on Monday, 16th May 2022 at Durham Crematorium, South Road, Durham, DH1 3TQ to which friends and former colleagues would be welcome.
June has requested, if possible, an item in the colour purple or pink be worn.
By request no flowers please. Donations, in lieu of flowers, in aid of Lymphoma Action, MacMillan Cancer Support and PAWZ for Thought (cat section), will be collected at the crematorium after the service.
