Neil joined Durham Constabulary on 3rd April 1967. He was initially posted to Sunderland and also served at Bishop Auckland, Traffic Patrols (South) and Spennymoor. His last role was as Firearms Licensing Officer. In 1997, Neil was nominated by the force for the Police Review Award of Community Police Officer of the Year, which he won. The award was presented to him by the then Home Secretary, Jack Straw.
After 30 years police service Neil retired, but remained with Durham Constabulary as a Community Safety Officer. He was involved in the inception of ‘Farmwatch’, which was to compliment the Neighbourhood Watch program. At the age of 65 years, he finally retired completely after a 41 year association with the force.
Sadly, Neil’s wife Judy died in December 2018; he is survived by son Mark, daughter Joanne, grandchildren David, Philip, Nicola and Matthew, great grandchildren Minnie and Harry, sister Joan and brother Bill.
Neil’s funeral takes place at 9.30am Thursday 28th April 2022 at Wear Valley Crematorium, Coundon, Bishop Auckland DL14 8PE. Friends and ex-colleagues are invited to meet at the crematorium.
Donations in lieu of flowers to Dementia UK.
Our thoughts are with Neil’s family and friends at this sad time.
