On 19th February 1968 he was appointed as constable and from HQ training he went on to serve at Jarrow, Chester-le-Street and Sacriston.
During this time he undertook a number of temporary attachments at the Technical Equipment Centre and CID Technical Aids Department.
In August 1980 he moved into photography and in January 1984 into Major scenes of crime. From 30th January 1989 he moved into technical aids training, retiring on pension on 4th May 1997.
Phil then worked with the College of Policing as a Forensic Trainer at Harperley Hall from January 1998 till retirement in September 2014.

We can confirm the funeral will take place on the 28th April 2020, at 2.30pm at Durham Crematorium but due to current restrictions this is limited to family only.
Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
