It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Sgt 372 Cyril Hind, who passed away on the 3rd February 2020. He was aged 88 years.
Cyril joined Sunderland Borough Police on the 11th November 1957 after service in the RAF Police and served on patrols and in Traffic Department.
When Sunderland Borough Police became part of Durham Constabulary in 1967 Cyril remained in Traffic and was a Motorway Patrol Officer.
In March 1973 he was promoted to Sgt initially in motorcycle section then on traffic patrols.
In 1976 he returned to motorcycles supervision then from 1979 he served as transport officer.
Cyril retired on the 29th February 1984.
He was married to his first wife Rose for 55 years prior to her death in 2011.
He is survived by his second wife Mary whom he married in 2013, son David and daughters Linda, Karen and Susan, stepsons Richard and James and stepdaughters Julie, Kathleen and Annette, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to meet at Durham Crematorium at 1.30pm on Thursday 20th February 2020 for the funeral service, which is NOT private.
Following the service refreshments will be served at Brandon Cricket Club.
