It is with regret that we have to announce the death of a retired Police Officer : Inspector Alfred Hughes (Bomber) Harris, who died peacefully on the 23rd October 2017 at Aldbourne, Wiltshire, cared for by family and the wonderful staff at Aldbourne Nursing Home. He was aged 84 years.
He does not leave a widow, but has a son David & daughter Lynda
Alfred served in the RAF between 1951-1954 before he joined Durham Constabulary on the 24th January 1955.
He was posted to HQ training before getting posted to Hartlepool then Hart before joining CID at West Hartlepool then Belle Vue. In October 1965 he was promoted to Sergeant and moved to Jarrow then in July 1969 he was promoted to Inspector and moved to Peterlee. In 1972 he spent a further 2 years at Hartlepool he then returned to Peterlee in 1974. In 1980 he was appointed Deputy Sub Divisional Commander at Seaham. He retired from Durham Constabulary on the 31st January 1981.
The funeral service is taking place on the 10th November 2017 at 2.30pm at Birtley Crematorium. The funeral service is not private.
Donations have been requested in lieu of flowers to the RNLI.
