Norah McKay – seriously ill

Norah McKay Retired Sgt, Norah McKay (nee Milburn) who is 83 years old, has had a serious stroke - back in January.

Norah is paralysed down her left side and seriously ill.

She is in Room 3, Brierton EMI Nursing Home, Hartlepool – but unfit to have visitors.

Norah was at last years Garden Party at HQ and our thoughts and best wishes are with her.

Norah was married to the late ‘Roy’ (Rodderick) McGregor McKay who was Motor Patrols through the 1960s and 70s.

Who is the ‘mystery’ Policeman ??

Sadler Street, Durham Notting_Hillb

This one came through to us from the Met Police Historical Section – they’d been told it was Notting Hill in London… but thought it looked like a Durham uniform.

Some ‘Detective’ work has been done by one or two already (Alan Hutchinson & Alan Watson (Chairman)  ) and with the help of Google’s technology it’s believed that the location is Sadler Street in Durham.

The consensus is that the photo was taken mid to late 60’s at Durham Big Meeting (Miners Gala)

So let’s see if we can do a bit of ‘detective’ work in retirement and identify the ‘mystery’ policeman.

If you know who it is either post a comment at the bottom of this article (please remember to include your name) or email : durhamnarpo@gmail.com

Police Pensions – RPI / CPI and Index Inking info

INFLATION FIGURES FOR SEPTEMBER 2010 ANNOUNCED

The latest inflation figures have just been released and the CPI stands at 3.1% whilst the RPI stands at 4.6% for September. As you will know the September inflation figure determines the increase to police pensions in April the following year.

This Government have in their budget indicated that public sector pensions will rise by the CPI and not the RPI from April 2011 and whilst NARPO is actively campaigning against this move, together with other pensioner groups, the indication at present is that police pensions will rise by the CPI in April this year.

THE BUDGET AND PENSION INCREASES

Following the Emergency Budget delivered by the Chancellor it would appear that this Governernment are seeking to change the up-rating of Police Pensions from the Retail Price Index to the Consumer Price Index from April 2011. Use the links below for further information.
