Death of a retired Police Officer - PC 1104 Harry Middlemas

It is with regret that we announce the death of ex- PC 1104 Harry Middlemas who died on 19th January 2011 aged 81 years. Mr Middlemas leaves a widow, Doreen.
Mr Middlemas joined Durham Constabulary in 1956 and served in various postings including Durham, Billingham, Peterlee, Motor Patrols and HQ CID from where he retired in 1983.

Death of a retired Police Officer - Chief Inspector Fred Bennett

It is with regret that we announce the death of retired Chief Inspector Mr Fred Bennett from Stokesley.
Who died on the 11th January 2011 aged 96 years.
Mr Bennett retired from HQ in 1967 following 30 years service. He had previously served at Durham, Jarrow, Monkton, Leadgate, West Hartlepool and Castle Eden.
Mr Bennett leaves a widow Mrs Doreen Bennett.

Volunteer Neighbourhood Co-ordinators Required

Durham Constabulary currently have a number of volunteers assisting at most stations in the force and it has been decided to utilise volunteer co-ordinators to assist Neighbourhood Inspectors manage volunteers at their stations which will be beneficial to both the force and the volunteers.

There is already a co-ordinator in place at Durham City who is working extremely well with the volunteers and alongside the Neighbourhood Inspector


We are currently looking for someone to volunteer as a co-ordinator in the following areas

Derwentside – based at Consett covering Consett and Stanley
Easington – based at Peterlee covering Peterlee & Seaham

We will also most likely need someone at Darlington & Bishop Auckland, this will be confirmed as soon as the relevant Neighbourhood Inspectors get back to me.
I would be grateful if you could circulate this to your members and ask anyone who may be interested to contact me on 03456060365 ext 6612660 so I can explain in more detail what will be involved.

Death of a retired Police Officer - Chief Superintendent Ian Robert Irwin

It is with regret that we announce the death of ex- Chief Superintendent Ian Robert IRWIN who died suddenly at home on 6th January 2011 aged 63 years.
Mr Irwin leaves a widow Jackie and a son Mark.
Mr Irwin joined the Constabulary in 1966 and served in various postings including Darlington, Traffic, PTC Dishforth, Chester-le-Street, HQ Administration, Personnel & Training, Personnel Department, Derwentside and Government Office North East from where he retired in January 2004.

Death of a retired Police Officer - Sgt William Parlett

It is with regret that we announce the death of ex Sgt William Parlett of Witton Gilbert, Durham.  Mr Parlett died on the 27th December 2010 aged 96 years. 
Ex Sgt Parlett retired from HQ Information Dept in 1969 following 30 years service.  He had previously served at West Hartlepool, Durham, Willington, Tudhoe, Quarrington Hill and Shildon.
